Furry Map Sig Tag Tutorial

furrymap_todd.gif (408x343 -- 53320 bytes)

This tutorial was created on February 5, 2004.  If it bears any resemblance to another tutorial on the net, it is pure coincidence.  The skills that you will learn here are your own, and I hope that you will find them useful.  In this tutorial, I will assume that you have a basic working knowledge of PSP, and it is made for upper level beginners or intermediate skill levels.

Materials:

  • You will need Paint Shop Pro, of course.  I use Version 8.10, and the effects are not the same in older versions.  You can download a trial version of Paint Shop Pro from JASC.

  • You can use your own tube or use this one.  I don't know where I got this tube so if anyone knows please let me know so I can give the proper credit for it.

  • Font of your choice.  I used the Scriptina font which can be found here along with many others.

Instructions:

Open a tube of your choice or use the one provided.  Duplicate (shift D) and close the original.

Add two duplicate raster layers by right clicking on your current layer and choose duplicate two times.  *Note:  the names of these layers will vary depending on the image you choose to use.

furrypic1.jpg (314x104 -- 36135 bytes)

Select the bottom layer and hide the two top layers.

furrypic2.jpg (317x103 -- 36010 bytes)

Effects/Artistic Effects/Topography with the following settings: width 100, Density 50, Angle 300, color white, and click OK.

furrypic3.jpg (362x420 -- 95297 bytes)

Unhide the second layer and resize this layer 85% with the "resize all layers" box unchecked and select this layer.

furrypic4.jpg (314x104 -- 35922 bytes)

Effects/Texture Effects/Fur and apply these settings:  Blur 65, Density 70, Length 15, Transparency 30 and click OK.

furrypic5.jpg (330x370 -- 83406 bytes)

Your image should now look something like this

furrypic6.jpg (416x368 -- 120777 bytes)

Position this layer offset to the right and down slightly from the first layer using your mover tool furrypic7.jpg (29x23 -- 1727 bytes).

Unhide the third layer and resize this layer 75% with the "resize all layers" box unchecked and select this layer.

furrypic8.jpg (313x100 -- 34469 bytes)

Position this layer offset to the left and down slightly from the second  layer using your mover tool furrypic7.jpg (29x23 -- 1727 bytes).

Your image should now look something like this

furrypic9.jpg (414x370 -- 129907 bytes)

Add a drop shadow to this layer with these settings: V/H offset 3, Opacity 75, Blur 6, color black.

furrypic10.jpg (409x503 -- 100163 bytes)

Adjust/Sharpness/Sharpen

Merge/Merge Visible.  Save this picture as a .psp image for later use.

Add a new raster layer.

Choose your font.  I used Scriptina, floating, size 48, anti-alias checked, stroke 3.

Select a color from your picture (I used the same color for Foreground and Background but be creative if you like) and add the desired text, leave selected.

3D Effects/Inner Bevel and use settings below and click OK

furrypic11.jpg (380x519 -- 106433 bytes)

Leave text selected:  Add a drop shadow to this layer with these settings: V/H offset 3, Opacity 75, Blur 6, color black.

Position text as desired and export your finished file as a .gif and your all set.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
