The Gospel of Judas was once thought to have been destroyed but has since been found and restored as much as physically possible. It has been called many of the following things which are one of the "missing gospels, gnostic gospels, secret gospels", and others. The condition of the Gospel was very poor and was painstakingly put back together fragment by fragment. The authenticity of the papyrus it was written on has been dated to the correct period of when it would have been likely written. The text, style of writing (originally written in Coptic) all match the correct time period. While no one can ever be 100% sure of it's authenticity, what we know bodes well towards that fact. Although many lines of text were non restorable, the main body of the text was saved and below is a link to a PDF version of the translated Gospel from it's original Coptic language. I am not in any way a theologian or professor of religion, so I can only add my own opinion to what I've read based on my own thoughts and ideas. After reading this Gospel, I find nothing in it to alter or change my beliefs as a Christian in any way. Since there are numerous lines of text missing, we cannot be sure of the entire text in certain areas, but what is readable and comprehendible of the gospel does nothing more that confirm what the other Gospels all conclude, and that is that Jesus was and is the "Son of God" There is nothing there that contradicts this main fact. What is different is the way Judas is portrayed in the gospel, which is as a confidant and receiver of information reserved only for him at the time of the last supper. Judas is portrayed, especially in the latter two of the 4 gospels or Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, as evil itself while the gospel of Judas, puts Judas in a more favorable light as Jesus gives him the mission if you will, to betray him, thus setting in motion the greatest event in recorded history which was Christ's execution and resurrection. Regardless of the conclusion you draw from this manuscript, the facts remain the same, and that is that Christ came to us in the form of man, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again that we might all receive the gift or eternal life from our Savior. Praise be to God on high! You can download the PDF here and read this for yourself. written by: WM8C, April 23th, 2006 Not for use without permission.
