VM Pox Sig Tag Tutorial

This tutorial was created on February 21, 2004. If it bears any resemblance to another tutorial on the net, it is pure coincidence. The skills that you will learn here are your own, and I hope that you will find them useful. In this tutorial, I will assume that you have a basic working knowledge of PSP, and it is made for upper level beginners with plug-in experience or intermediate skill levels.

Materials:

You will need Paint Shop Pro, of course. I use Version 8.10, but I am sure it will work in other versions as well. You can download a trial version of Paint Shop Pro from JASC.
Tube of your choice or use this one. I don't know where I got the tube I used so if anyone knows, please let me know so I can give the proper credit for them.
You will also need VM Distorion Filters which is a free plug-in that you can use with your graphics program.
We will be working with many individual layers for easy manipulation and placement of our tubes.
You will also need a font of your choosing. I used the Platthand font which can be found here along with many others
Remember to save your work often.

Instructions

Open a tube of your choice. Shift D to duplicate and close your original.

Image/Canvas Size 500x 500 pixels. I like lots of area to work with.

Right click in your layer pane and choose duplicate layer 2 times.

Rename the first copy "copy 1" and the second copy "copy 2". You should now have three layers with the same image.

Hide the copy 1 and copy 2 layers by clicking on the eye to the right of each layer. There should now be red X's on those two layers with only layer 1 visible.

Effects/VM _Distortion/Smallpox and use these settings:

pox1.jpg (651x232 -- 62424 bytes)

Adjust, sharpness, sharpen.

Unhide the copy 1 layer and make sure you have this layer selected.

Resize this layer 75% with the "resize all layers box unchecked. Offset the image with your mover tool on the Smallpox image down and right. Apply the VM_Distortion/Radial Pox filter with these settings:

Unhide your copy 2 layer and make sure you have this layer selected.

Resize this layer 90% with the "resize all layers box unchecked. Center the image with your mover tool.

Selections/Select All and apply a drop shadow to this layer with the following settings:

Drop the opacity of layer 1 to 70%

Adjust, sharpness, sharpen.

Merge, merge visible.

Save this image as a .psp image for later use and to add your text to.

Add a new raster layer and re-name this layer "text".

From your picture, choose a dark foreground color and a light background color. I choose #D48D0C for the Foreground and #CFAC4D for the Background color.

Select your text tool, floating, size 100, stroke 1, anti-alias checked.

Type your name or text of your choice. With text still selected, move the text to the area of your choosing.

Effects, 3D effects, Inner bevel, color white, with the following settings:

Position you text as Desired.

Apply a drop shadow using the same settings as in the earlier step.

Adjust/Sharpness/Sharpen

Resize and crop your image to your liking and your done!

Export your finished file as a transparent .gif and your all set.
